HASSRA ‘Best Club’ winner
Our base for this weekend is Hartington Hall, standing on the
fringe of Hartington village in the heart of Derbyshire close to the beauty
spots of Dovedale and Milldale.
It was built in 1611 for Thomas Bateman and owned by the Bateman family until
it was sold to the Youth Hostel Association in 1948 and has remained a Youth
Hostel ever since. It was the first Youth Hostel in the country to have central
heating and electricity and following recent refurbishment is now ‘a magnificent manor house set in its own gardens
offering great style and country-house atmosphere and a fantastic base from
which to explore the beautiful countryside of the Peak District.’
Non-members of the Rambling Club are very welcome to join us, but
you will be expected to participate fully in the walking programme. Please give brief details of your previous
walking experience on the booking form.
The Hostel
Hartington Hall is a 4 star hostel; accommodation is in twin and
double rooms, with a limited number of single rooms available, but may not have
en suite facilities. The hostel has a table licence (bring your own beer and
wine) and a self catering kitchen which is handy for packing up. You can check
out the hostel using this link www.yha.org.uk.
