THE SHOW

PINOCCHIO
at HAREWOOD HOUSE
By
Carlo Collodi
Ilyria are proud to present this classic tale, specially adapted
for the stage.
Everyone thinks they know the story of Pinocchio. The truth is they probably
don’t. Forget Disney.
Geppetto the carpenter carves a puppet called Pinocchio from a block of wood,
but Pinocchio cunningly throws a wild tantrum and gets Geppetto sent to prison
for cruelty. Free to do what he likes, Pinocchio joins the theatre, squanders
his father’s money, is chased by murderers and almost hanged. Eventually he
ends up in the wonderful
Collodi’s
extraordinary story of redemption is also an hysterical satire on growing up –
and both children and adults will recognise the reality that lurks behind each
of the heavily metaphorical episodes in the play. Featuring a leading actor
whose nose really does grow, and a 20-foot shark,
Please Note: the show is not suitable for under 5’s. Children
this age may struggle emotionally with the fact that the title role is not just
naughty but spiteful and vindictive in placese. Some action scenes are quite
intense and they may also be challenged by seeing a version of the story which
is very different from the cartoon one they know intimately.
Seating is not provided; please bring your own lightweight low-backed chairs or
a rug.
